Sunrise Photo Shoot — Thursday 24th August

An early start, leaving Penang before dawn, saw us crossing the bridge to meet my good friend Elias. By 6.30 am we were heading to our chosen location beside the river at Air Hitam Dalam, hoping to capture the first light of the day.

The sky was already showing promise, although low cloud softened the sunrise. We took a few photographs before packing up and heading off for a well-earned breakfast.

After our sunrise shoot at Air Hitam Dalam, we packed up and headed off for a well-earned breakfast. My friend Elias knew the local area well, so we made our way to the Sungai Dua morning market for roti canai and a strong coffee.

By mid-morning we were exploring along the river, hoping to find a few more interesting subjects. We came across a lone fisherman tending his nets, followed by an unexpected encounter with a very pregnant water buffalo. She seemed quite happy to ignore us and carry on grazing!

Further along the riverbank, we came across a small herd of buffalo munching on the rice stalks left after the harvest. The owner was a local fisherman who kindly allowed us to photograph his animals and gave us his contact details.

After a pleasant morning of photography, it was time for lunch. We made our way to Bukit Mertajam for a portion of Mee Goreng, followed by a trip to the photographer’s heaven — Camzilla at Raja Uda! The people there were friendly and knowledgeable, and I’ll write about Camzilla in a later post.

After dropping Elias back home, I headed back to Penang. It had been a successful day, with plenty of interesting photographs and new memories to take away.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse of a morning around Air Hitam Dalam.
